The Ram 1500 Rev vs. Ford F-150 Lightning: An Electric Truck Faceoff

Electric vehicles have come a long way since they were first introduced to the mainstream. Electric trucks have entered the market, adding to the truck wars. Now instead of comparing gas and diesel power, we’ll compare electric power and range. Here’s a look at two of the top electric trucks making their way to the mainstream. The Ram 1500 Rev vs. the Ford F-150 Lightning.

How Much Power Do These Trucks Have?

Let’s talk about horsepower. When you press on the accelerator in the Ram 1500 Rev, this truck will zoom to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and get 654 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. It will come standard with four-wheel drive and offer four-wheel steering to make turning tighter. And these numbers are all with the smaller battery pack. We’ll have to stay tuned to find out what the extended battery can do.

The Lightning is also impressive. If both trucks are stopped, the Lighting will beat the Ram 1500 Rev off the line with its 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds. This acceleration comes with the extended battery, which gets 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. If you stick with the standard battery, it will get 452 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque.

How Far Can You Go?

One of the first things we think about when talking about electric vehicles is how much range do they get. We want to know how far we can go before we have to charge back up. The Ford F-150 Lightning can go up to 320 miles when equipped with the 131-kWh extended-range battery, while the standard battery will get up to 240 miles of range.

The Ram 1500 REV can beat the Lightning with both the extended and standard range batteries. When the standard range battery is fully charged, the Rev can go up to 350 miles, and with the extended range, you can plan a trip that will take you about 500 miles before you have to stop to charge.

Electric Trucks Have More Towing Power Than You Think

When people shop for a pickup truck, it’s probably because they need the capability. Towing is a big part of this. The good news is with an electric truck, you can still get this towing power.

The Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds if you add the Max Tow Package, and the Ram 1500 Rev can tow up to 14,000 pounds. This higher number is mostly due to the larger battery, which will also keep its charge longer when towing.

Which Electric Truck Do You Need?

Which truck you need depends on a few things. If you want one right now, the Ford F-150 Lightning is already on the market. If you want the extra horsepower and range of the Ram 1500 Rev, you’ll have to wait a little longer. It’s making its way toward Ram dealers and should be there around the fourth quarter of 2024.
