Porsche Macan EV Unveiled

Porsche continues to upgrade its electrified lineup with a new Porsche Macan EV. This new model makes a lot of sense for the German sports car brand.

The Macan has been Porsche’s best-selling vehicle since 2016 and begins life as a compact electric luxury crossover for the 2024 model year. This new Macan EV rides on a new platform, which will also be used for the Audi A6 e-tron, giving both a dual-motor setup to produce impressive power. This new model should deliver more driving range than the Taycan, Porsche’s first EV.

Let’s learn more about this new electric compact crossover SUV.

Will the electric and gas models be sold together?

Expect the same sporty driving dynamics with the electric model as the gas version of the Macan. The biggest differences will be the powertrains, which means both models offer the upscale cabin that makes this little SUV a treat to drive. For now, we’ll see both versions sold together, but having an EV and a gas model makes us wonder about something. Will the Macan become an EV-only model in the future, or will Porsche continue to offer the gas version as well? Only time will tell on that one.

How much power should we expect?

The new Porsche Macan EV comes in two flavors, but more will likely be added later. The Macan 4 EV and Turbo EV both feature AWD, courtesy of the dual-electric motor layout. The Macan 4 EV is the base model, and it provides 402 horsepower and 479 lb-t of torque. This could be more than enough power for most drivers. The Turbo version brings more power to the mix with 630 horsepower and 833 lb-ft of torque.

Both electric Macan models have electronically limited top speeds, but both top speeds are more than adequate to make you smile. The 4 EV model can reach 136 mph, while the Turbo model has a higher limit of 161 mph. The sprint time to 60 mph for this sporty electric SUV is 3.1 seconds for the Turbo model and 4.9 seconds for the 4 EV.

These two versions of the Macan EV have air suspensions with adaptive dampers. If you choose the Turbo model, you’ll also receive the benefits of Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, which makes this SUV feel more active and agile on the road. Add the benefits of rear-wheel steering to the mix, and you’ll cut the turning radius and enjoy a nimble ride.

Is the Macan EV useful for daily driving?

The Porsche Macan EV should reach up to 300 miles of electric driving range, but that figure hasn’t been released yet. With that driving range, this luxury sports electric SUV can be useful for your daily ride. In addition to the respectable driving range, this Porsche uses 800-volt architecture to achieve the fastest possible charging speeds. This means the Macan EV battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 21 minutes. That’s almost the same amount of time it takes to refuel a gasoline tank in most vehicles.

Porsche goes sustainable with the Macan EV

Don’t expect to find leather upholstery in the cabin of this new electric SUV. Instead, Porsche uses recycled materials including floormats made of regenerated nylon. You’ll enjoy the look of the integrated ambient lighting and leather-free seats. When it comes to cargo room, the Macan EV has you covered. With the rear seats up, you’ll have 18 cubic feet of storage space and 46.5 cubes when those seats are folded flat. There’s also a small 2.9 cubic foot front storage area, or frunk to hold some extra items you’ll need to take with you.

Screens across the dashboard

Like many modern vehicles, the new Macan EV features a large bank of screens across the dashboard. You’ll see a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster to give you the desired gauge readings. Next to this sits a 10.9-inch central touchscreen for the infotainment system. A third screen, also measuring 10.9 inches, sits in front of the passenger to give them a screen to use when the Macan EV is on the move. A head-up display gives you some of the most important information in a transparent display on the dashboard.

Which model should you choose?

Unless you must have the extra power of the Turbo model, the 4 EV is the right choice. This Porsche Macan EV provides plenty of power and should have the most driving range. In true Porsche fashion, you can add several impressive options to the base Macan EV to enjoy everything you want when you take this new electric SUV out for a spin.
