The Mustang Mach-E Rally: Surprisingly Powerful and Fantastically Fast

The Mustang Mach-E Rally may be an EV SUV, but it lives up to its moniker. This special-edition performance car is seriously fast.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally has more going for it than rally car styling. The EV SUV was designed to compete with the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and it more than holds its ground.

External Design Takes Cues From Rally Cars

The Rally trim of the Mustang Mach-E is ostentatious enough to match the SUV’s attitude on the road. It comes in bright colors and features black racing lines down the middle of the hood that continue to the rear decklid. Some describe it as looking a bit like a giant Hot Wheels car.

Regarding other aesthetic differences that set the Mach-E Rally apart, you’ll also notice a pair of fog lamps integrated into the front grille and a trim-exclusive large spoiler mounted to the top of the liftgate. The liftgate was inspired by the Focus RS, Ford’s last road-going rally car.

The Mach-E Rally also gets white 19-inch wheels that look like they belong on a rally racer and special decals on the front doors.

Built to Take On Almost Anything

As the name implies, the Mustang Mach-E Rally is meant to function a bit like a road-going rally car. These specialty race cars compete on various terrains, often across long distances. The Mustang Mach-E may be an EV SUV, but it performs admirably in many settings.

The Mach-E Rally gets AWD and an extra inch of ground clearance over the Mach-E GT. While its 5.8 inches of clearance falls short of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT’s 7, it makes getting off the beaten path easier.

What Powers the Mustang Mach-E Rally?

The Mustang Mach-E Rally features a 91 kWh battery pack. That’s larger than any other Mach-E. Thanks to the large battery, the Rally boasts an EPA-estimated range of 265 miles, far outpacing most of its competitors, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which makes it just 221 miles to a charge.

As far as power generation goes, the Rally features two electric motors. Each is mounted to one of the SUV’s axles to create what Ford refers to as an eAWD system. The two motors achieved an impressive 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally may be no Roush Stage 3 Mustang, but it’s got plenty of power beneath its proverbial hood.

The Mach-E Rally Lives Up to Its Name

The best part is that the Mach-E Rally really can handle like a race car. Turning on RallySport mode maximizes performance on multi-terrain high-speed race courses. You’ll get quicker throttle response, less traction control, and an intense faux engine noise to mimic a traditional rally car.

The handling in this EV SUV is precise, and a specially tuned adjustable damper helps to optimize traction as road conditions change. The Mustang Mach-E Rally can also sprint from 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds. What’s not to love?
