The New Ford Ranger Raptor Rules the (Off) Road

The Ford Ranger is a midsize pickup. Whether you’re looking for style, tech, or performance, you’ll get it all with this mighty truck. One thing that makes it stand out is its versatility. While some other midsize trucks specialize in one thing, the Ranger can do it all. And if you’re looking for off-road capability, you’ll want to head down to a Ford dealer and take a closer look at the Raptor.

It All Starts with the Powertrain

It might not be a mighty Super Duty, but the Ranger is an impressive truck, and trucks need power to impress. Pop open the hood and you’ll find a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder with 270 horsepower. A new 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 is also available and gets you 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque to play with. No matter which engine you choose, it will work with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford Ranger Raptor is Ready to Take on Anything

The big news with the latest Ranger is the new Raptor trim. It’s dedicated to off-road driving and ready to take your adventure to the next level. It has even more power than the rest of the Ranger lineup with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It rides on the same frame as the other Ranger trims, but gets a long-travel suspension to help it soar over those fun jumps, and it has extra drive modes to make the most of off-road terrain.

In addition to a suspension that gives it some extra ride height, the Raptor rides on 33-inch BFGoodrich K03 all-terrain tires. It also has Fox internal bypass shocks and a low-speed cruise control made for off-road driving.

The FX4 Package

If you don’t want to go all-in with the Raptor trim, you can get some extra off-road equipment for the other Ranger models with the Fx4 Package. It’s available on any of the lower trims as long as you opt for four-wheel drive. Adding the Fx4 gets you an electronic-locking rear differential, skid plates to protect the important underbody components, and an off-road tuned suspension.

This package also adds some extra driving modes for off-road terrain, and it has a Trail Turn Assist system. This can help the truck make extra tight turns when you need to make your way through curvy off-road terrain.

Get Comfortable on Any Road in the Ford Ranger Raptor

The regular Ranger has a modern looking and feeling cabin with all the tech you need for any on or off-road adventure. It also has some great storage spaces where you can tuck things away so they don’t bounce around when you hit rough surfaces. When you go to your Ford dealer to check out the Raptor, you’ll notice it’s a little different from the other models. Ford spiffed it up a little with extra bolstering on the front seats, added some red trim to make it stand out, and it has a sportier steering wheel.
